Richard Dunham Shick, 83, Vero Beach

Richard “Dick” Dunham Shick, 83, of Vero Beach, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease, on Nov. 6, 2014

He is survived by his wife, Karen Fenton Shick; son, Richard Jeffery Shick (Sue) of Calhoun, Ga.; daughter, Jami Shick Holden (David) of Kennesaw, Ga.; step- daughters, Fredricka Fenton of Sebastian and Jacqueline Fenton Aronson Debany (Larry) of Ridgefield, Conn.; sister, Connie Shick Squires of Wabash, Ind.; grandchildren, Amanda Shick Wilson, Stephanie Shick Henshaw, and Hannah Holden; step-grandchildren, Stephen Aronson and James Aronson; great- granddaughters, Eden Wilson and Evelyn Henshaw; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Bea) Jean Morris Shick, in 2002.

Shick was born on May 30, 1931, in LaPorte, Ind. He was the son of the late Donald Shick and Winifred Dunham Shick.

He was a graduate of LaPorte High School, and graduated from Indiana University School of Business in the R.O.T.C. program. He was also a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Shick served in the United States Air Force, as a 2nd Lieutenant Air Traffic Controller, from 1953- 1957. He was Sales Manager for Indiana Moulding in LaPorte, Ind., until 1976 when he moved his family to Atlanta, Ga., to open his own picture frame moulding manufacturing company, Shick Moulding.

As a young man he was an Eagle Scout, and later became a Leader of Indian Guides and Explorer Scouts. His hobbies were many. Golf, gardening, traveling and socializing were his favorites. He was always thought to resemble Robert Redford.

After retiring and selling his business, Schick and Bea moved from Atlanta to Vero Beach, in 1999. He became an active member of Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club. He contributed to many charitable organizations, including Indian River Medical Center Foundation, where he was a Golden Eagle and a member of the Legacy Society.

On Dec. 6, 2006, he married Karen Fenton. They enjoyed traveling, playing golf, tennis, and sharing their families together. Shick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be sorely missed.
