Space Coast Symphony Orchestra masterworks concert features Brahms, Beethoven, Wagner

VERO BEACH — The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra brings out the big guns for their first masterworks concert of the 2014-15 season. “Brahms Three” will include Brahms Symphony No. 3 along with works by Beethoven and Wagner at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Vero Beach Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, 32960.

Beginning the program will be Richard Wagner’s Overture to The Flying Dutchman, a striking tone poem depicting the turbulent atmosphere of the sea. Next is Beethoven’s lyrical Violin Concerto, in the capable hands of soloist, Joni Roos.

Roos is the Strings Artist-in-Residence at Rollins College in Winter Park, where she oversees the string program, teaching applied violin and viola, string methods and orchestral literature.

Completing the program is Brahms rapturous Symphony No. 3, where the composer’s admiration of Beethoven unfolds in a four-movement work with brilliant melody and harmony. The program is free for those aged 18 and under or with a college student ID. $20 advance tickets are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) and Madison Avenue Consignments. Tickets at the door are $25. Call toll free to (855)-252-7276 for more information.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins looks forward to the first of the group’s masterworks concert this season.

“Each of the composers on this program is a giant and has contributed enormously to orchestral literature,” said Collins. “And I think the audience is going to be wowed with the Beethoven, when they see the talent of the Rollins College Strings Artist-in-Residence, Ms. Joni Roos.”
