House fire damages South Vero home, no injuries

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An overnight house fire started in the garage of a Shady Oaks subdivision in South Vero Beach, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman, Eric Flowers.

The garage and the laundry room of the house received the most extensive damage due to the fire. All occupants and pets were evacuated safely, Flowers said.

According to people living in the surrounding blocks, the fire followed a loud “explosion.”

A group of American Red Cross volunteers was on scene to assist occupants of the home.

The home was located in the 4100 block of 12th SW.
