INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Treasure Coast Food Bank’s annual Great Treasure Coast Holiday Food and Fund Drive has begun. Now through Dec. 31, the Food Bank is seeking donations from individuals and organizations to help provide meals to thousands of families in need during this crucial time of year.
There are several ways to participate: Host an online Food and Fund Drive, Host a traditional Food and Fund Drive, donate $25 to feed a family, or donate a frozen, uncooked turkey to a designated drop-off site.
One of the most beneficial ways to contribute to this year’s program is to host an online Food and Fund drive, which eliminates the hassle of collecting heavy food or barrels. Individuals or teams are able to set up a fundraising page on the Food Bank’s website, stophunger.org, through which they are able to send emails or post to social media asking friends, family, and co-workers to join their team and donate with them.
The money donated through the online Food and Fund drive is tax-deductible, and donors receive a receipt for each monetary gift. This is also an easy way for departments, companies, schools, or organizations to compete against each other. Each group can set up their own team page and keep track of donations.
“The gift of a virtual meal provides more food than through a traditional food drive, doubling or even tripling the amount of food a dollar can provide, due in large part to our wholesale purchasing power and efficient distribution model,” Treasure Coast Food Bank CEO Judith Cruz said. “For every $1 donated, we are able to distribute seven meals to people facing hunger in our community.”
If tradition feels right, then participate in the Great Treasure Coast Holiday Food and Fund Drive by hosting a traditional food and fund drive, giving a $25 donation to provide a holiday meal for a needy family, or donating a frozen, uncooked turkey to one of the Food Bank’s designated drop-off sites on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
