Vero Rotary Club awards Shining Light Garden $1,500 donation

VERO BEACH — The Rotary Club of Vero Beach Charities Foundation presented a $1,500 check to Greg Vafiades of the Shining Light Garden on Oct. 9, 2014.

Co-chair of the Rotary Foundation Daniel Fourmont remarked, “The Foundation is pleased to support the Shining Light Garden in its efforts to feed the hungry and the homeless. The Rotary Club has been providing financial support to this important local charity since its creation five years ago.”

The Shining Light Garden is a 20 acre farm located in west Vero Beach. Entirely run by volunteers, the garden produces many varieties of vegetables for the homeless and hungry. They recently began growing flowers for the VNA Hospice House.

Since 2010, the garden has distributed more than 10,000 bushels of food to help feed the hungry. Last year the organization was the recipient of Impact 100 funding to purchase new equipment with the goal of increasing production by 50 percent for distribution to local food pantries, senior centers and homeless.
