Grant proposals being accepted for Indian River County youth programs

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Community Foundation Future Leaders Professional Advisors Council is inviting nonprofit organizations that serve youth ages 12-18 to submit proposals for two grants in the amount of $2,500 each.

Complete grant guidelines and the application form are available at www.ircommunityfoundation.com. Applications are due Oct.29.

Grants will focus on programs that have the potential for long-term impact on underserved, economically disadvantaged youth in Indian River County. Among other requirements, a successful proposal will show how the program exposes youth to a wide range of challenging and interesting learning experiences that help them build understanding, skills and competencies that will contribute to the broader community.

The Future Leaders Professional Advisors Council is a group of emerging leaders interested in better understanding the local philanthropic process. The group consists of attorneys, CPAs, investment advisors, financial planners and others who have the opportunity to help charitably inclined clients be more effective with their philanthropy. This is the third year the group has funded a formal grant program, said Elizabeth Sorensen, Chairman of the Future Leaders.

“We are going beyond just educating ourselves about financial instruments and truly experiencing what it means to act philanthropically in our community,” said Sorensen, “At the same time, we have the opportunity to provide support for programs that help youth navigate the critical transition into adulthood.”

The Future Leaders will work closely with the professional staff at the Indian River Community Foundation, where the funds are being held. IRCF Executive Director Kerry Bartlett assisted the Future Leaders in creating the grants program and will oversee its implementation.

“The role of the Community Foundation is to help the Future Leaders in the selection and grant funding process,” Bartlett said. “Once the grants are awarded, we will monitor the progress of the funded projects and provide a final report on the outcomes to the Future Leaders group.”

The Indian River Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides donors with flexible philanthropic tools to achieve their current and long-term charitable giving goals. The foundation’s mission is to build a stronger community through donor-driven philanthropy.

To be eligible for the Future Leaders grant program, nonprofit organizations must have an active profile on the Indian River Community Foundation Nonprofit Knowledge Center before the application due date. Nonprofits are also strongly encouraged to carefully read the request for proposals, available at www.ircommunityfourndation.com, before applying.
