Herbert Kuhn, 87, of Vero Beach, passed away on Oct. 14, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Margaret Lois; sons Herbert B. (Kyoko) Kuhn, Jr. and Jeffrey (Sandra Grady) Kuhn; daughter Deborah (Alec Kowalczyk) D’Agostino; stepson, Thomas (Lucinda) Lamme and stepdaughter, Anne (David) Pankratz; brothers, Donald and Thomas Kuhn; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his step-daughter, Linda Sabatini; brothers, George, Clarence “Bob” and Charles “Len” Kuhn and grandson, David D’Agostino.
Kuhn was born in Natrona Heights, Penn., he had been a resident of Grove Isle of Vero Beach since 1996.
After graduating from Har-Brack High School in the Pittsburgh, Penn. area, Kuhn entered the U.S. Air Force, retiring after three years. He then entered college life and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953. The steel mills of Pittsburgh called him to work for Allegheny-Ludlum where he was eventually transferred to their plant in Watervliet, N.Y., near the capital, Albany.
In 1949 he married, Almyrta Porter of Natrona Heights, and is the father of three children, Herbert, Jr., Deborah and Jeffrey. Almyrta preceded him in death in 1980.
After leaving the steel industry in 1968, he spent 17 years employed by the State of New York as a personnel administrator in Albany. While employed by the State, Herb became Mayor of the Village of Colonie and served in that capacity for 16 years being re-elected eight times. He subsequently retired from New York State in 1987 and later retired as mayor from the Village of Colonie in 1955.
Kuhn married Margaret Lois Lamme in 1982 and traveled extensively before purchasing a condo in Vero Beach.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach and served in a variety of capacities of the Grove Isle Condominium Association.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach on Monday, October 20 at 11 a.m.
