INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dogs for Life is hosting its 13th annual signature fundraising event, the Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Parade and Pet Expo, on Oct. 18, from 2-5 p.m.
The popular Pawrade starts at 4 p.m. This year there will also be an open house at the new Assistance Dog Training and Administrative Center at the same time. The location is 1230 16th Ave. in Vero Beach.
The event is free and open to the public and sponsored by Gene, Martha and Sir Bentley Schumann. Additional sponsors and exhibitor space is still available.
The Howl-O-Ween Pawrade is Dogs for Life’s signature annual fundraiser and has drawn more than 100 dogs in costume and more than 300 spectators for the past three years. This event is supported by exhibitors’ and sponsors’ participation. Bring lawn chairs, dogs, and children with costumes and be prepared to have a Howling Good Time!
Dogs For Life, Inc. (DFL), is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to the community by training hearing dogs, service dogs, sponsoring a Veteran Dog Training Program and offering Pet-Assisted Therapy, and obedience classes for the public. DFL owns and manages a 4-acre safe and clean off-leash dog park, where dogs are screened for health, temperament and sociality. There will be a special surprise announcement concerning the lowering of usage fees during this event.
Howl-O-Ween Pawrade activities include many raffle items and prizes for all dogs in costume, a military color guard presentation by Veterans of Foreign War Post 3918, a multi-law enforcement K-9 demonstration organized by the Indian River County Sheriff Department’s K-9 Unit, food will be offered by Jims Dog’s On the Run from Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4067and the 4-H Dog Master’s Club will be selling water as their first fundraiser of the year, and entertainment is offered by the Rip Tides.
