FELLSMERE — The Fellsmere Police Department is investigating a burglary that happened early Sunday morning, which was reported after a 14-year-old was awakened by a dog barking.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Haze Tavish Sikes and advise that he might be armed with a firearm and looking to commit a robbery. In addition, it is possible that he cut off his dreadlock hair.

On Sunday, around 1:15 a.m., officers of the Fellsmere Police Department investigated a report of a burglary to an occupied dwelling in the 1000 block of State Street in Fellsmere, according to authorities.

The victim in this case is a 14-year-old female who reported being awakened by her dog barking. She looked to see why her dog was barking and from her bed, saw someone standing in her mother’s bedroom, according to police.

At first she thought it was a relative, but then realized it was a person whom she had seen in the neighborhood frequently, but whose name she did not know, authorities said. She described him as a white male with blonde dreadlocks wearing a dark colored sweater and dark jeans.

The victim feared for her safety and shouted at the suspect – later identified as Sikes – to get out of her house, according to authorities.

Hearing her shout, the suspect immediately slammed the door to the mother’s bedroom so she could no longer see him and fled the home by climbing out the bedroom window, according to authorities.

Physical evidence at the scene indicates that the suspect entered the home through the same bedroom window.

Officers were able to determine the suspect’s identity as Haze Tavish Sikes and obtained warrants for his arrest for burglary to an occupied dwelling and criminal mischief, according to police.

Anyone with information about this crime or the location of Haze Tavish Sikes is asked to contact the Fellsmere Police Department at (772) 571-1360 or call 911.
