Bernice V. Maier, 93, of Vero Beach, passed away on Oct. 11, 2014.
She is survived by her son Casper (Kathy) Maier; grandsons CJ (Debra) Maier, and Matthew Maier, and two great-granddaughters, Julia and Hayley Maier.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Casper A. Maier and her three sisters Jean Crawford, Dolly Long and Wanda Heffner.
She was born on Nov. 19, 1921, in Shamokin, Penn., to the late Walter and Victoria Matlack.
Maier graduated from Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School with her R.N. and went on to serve as an Army Nurse in WWII. Upon retiring after 50 years of nursing, she volunteered at VNA for more than 13 years. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Mass will be celebrated at St. Helen Church, Thursday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later time at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Fla. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to VNA Hospice of Vero Beach.
