INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dyer Chevrolet and Dyer Mazda Subaru are pleased to announce the 76th recipient of the Dyer Difference Award. This award salutes a non-profit organization in Indian River County that is truly making a difference in the community.
Dyer Chevrolet and Dyer Mazda Subaru presented the Dyer Difference Award along with a $3,000 check to September’s recipient: Indian River County Firefighter Association.
The Award will help support the fundraising efforts of the Chili Cook off scheduled at Riverside Park on Nov. 8. Last year, more than 10,000 attendees consumed 26,000 samples of chili and salsa in less than two hours.
Ten years ago, Lieutenants David Dangerfield and Steve Graul were talking about what they could do to help support the community and put on a fun family event which involved the firefighters. They agreed hot chili and firefighting was a good match, so they started the first Chili Cook off in Indian River County.
The cook off started on Ocean Drive and attendance grew so large that it had to be moved several times. Now, the cook off is located on the waterfront in Vero Beach.
Over 10,000 people are expected to attend this ever-growing family event.
“We are happy to support the firefighters and can’t wait to attend this fun event.” John Dyer said.
