Authorities investigating battery, possible attempted murder

FELLSMERE — The Fellsmere Police Department and the Indian River Sheriff’s Office are investigating a severe aggravated battery case, with possible attempted murder charges forthcoming, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Eric Flowers.

Sunday around 8 p.m., Fellsmere Police and numerous deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office were in the vicinity of 99th Street and N. Willow investigating the report of a physical altercation at that location, according to police.

A witness in the area reported seeing a physical altercation between two males and saw one of the males flee on foot, leaving the other behind lying on the ground.

The injuries sustained by that person were severe enough to require transportation by helicopter to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, according to authorities.

Residents would have seen and heard the Sheriff’s helicopter in the area.

This is an active criminal investigation being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office and no further details can be released at this time, the Sheriff’s Office said.
