INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Genealogical Society will host Diana Crisman Smith, at its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 14, to be held in the first floor multimedia room of the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach.

Smith has been researching since childhood and served as a lay librarian at a local Family History Center for more than 20 years. She has written for numerous genealogical publications such as the NGS News Magazine and the APG Quarterly.

She serves as Treasurer of the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors (ISFHWE), Genealogical Speakers Guild (GSG), Florida State Genealogical Society and was Past District Director of Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). Smith has spoken at conferences around the country (and at sea) over the last 15 years.

Researching ancestors is more than who, what, and where; it is important to understand the “why” or “how” as well.

One of the most interesting sources for this information is contemporary newspapers, and now, many are becoming available online. Learn tips to use and traps to avoid to make your research more effective. This program will appeal to every level of family history researcher from beginners to the more advanced.
