Democratic Women’s Club to host Medical Marijuana discussion Oct. 11

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County will be discussing “Taking the Issue to the Voters – How Medical Marijuana Became Amendment 2” at its Oct. 11 meeting.

The guest speaker will be Jodi James, executive director of the Florida Cannabis Action Network (FLCAN), the oldest continuously active cannabis reform group in the state.

James leads FLCAN’s multi-pronged strategy to create sensible cannabis laws for Florida and raise the level of national debate. During the past two decades, she has directly assisted 16 states with successfully passing legislation protecting patient access to cannabis.

A respected reformer and speaker, James was featured at the 2013 International Drug Policy Alliance conference regarding the future of cannabis in Florida. Her numerous presentations this year include sharing the stage with Florida Sheriff Association

President Grady Judd in a panel discussion regarding Amendment 2.

In addition to her work with FLCAN, James sits on the advisory board of Veterans for Medical Cannabis Access.

Her past positions include three years on staff with Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, an international speakers bureau of current and former law enforcement professionals. Prior to that, she was affiliated with the Florida-based Coalition Advocating Medical Marijuana.
