1 killed, 2 injured in US 1 crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The identities have been released of those involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash on US 1 Tuesday.

Killed in the crash was 88-year-old George Powers Howland, of Vero Beach, who was driving a 1997 Honda Odyssey.

Injured were those in the second vehicle, 23-year-old Sean Christina Maloney, of Port St. Lucie, and 30-year-old John Lee Vukovich Jr., of Okeechobee. Both of them received minor injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The agency said Howland was driving southbound on US 1 when he attempted to make a left turn onto Grove Isle Circle. Maloney’s 2005 Ford Escape then struck the passenger side of Howland’s Odyssey.

Howland was transported to Lawnwood Regional where he was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m.

FHP says the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A three-vehicle crash on US 1 Tuesday evening killed one person and injured two more.

The identities of those involved have not yet been released.

The crash happened in the 1400 block of southbound US 1, between Oslo Road and Highlands Drive SW.

Traffic was diverted from the site and the road was shut down for at least two hours.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A three-vehicle crash has closed the southbound lanes US 1, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred in the 1400 block which is between Oslo Road and Highlands Drive SW, according to the department’s tweet.

Traffic is being diverted.

The road is expected to be closed for the next two hours, according to authorities. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
