Herbert W. Dean, 96, Vero Beach

Herbert W. Dean, 96, of Vero Beach, passed away on Sept. 23, at Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He is survived by his son Richard; daughter-in-law Ann; grandsons Bill and Charlie; and great-grandchildren Connor and Elle.

Dean was born in 1917 and grew up in Rochester, N.Y. He attended Irondequoit High School where he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

He was a proud World War II veteran, serving honorably as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945.

He had a long and distinguished career at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, retiring in 1982 as Director of Worldwide Office Operations after 43 years of continuous service. He sat on the Boards of numerous civic and business organizations including the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce, The American Management Association, the Syracuse University School of Management and Delta Upsilon fraternity.

He was an avid golfer and past President of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester. He was also a 36-year resident and member of The Johns Island Club in Vero Beach.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Avenue, Vero Beach FL, 32960. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to “Music at Trinity” at the above address in Mr. Dean’s memory.
