Artist Mary Segal has dreamed for years of having her own artists’ studio and gallery and, after months of careful planning and hard work, friends and fellow artists from North County and Vero gathered at Segal’s Red Door Art Studio Sept. 20 for a “studio-warming.”
Segal owns and resides in a duplex, tucked away on a lovely wooded property at the end of a little dirt lane in Roseland. Amidst vines and greenery, visitors approach the welcoming red door, striking against soft yellow walls.
With an artist’s eye, Segal has wonderfully transformed the vacant areas into studio and gallery space. Well-placed spotlights enhance the gallery works, and there is plenty of natural light in the individual studio spaces, which can be rented by area artists. Several of Segal’s acrylic paintings, which incorporate real flowers, were among the pieces displayed at the opening.
Segal works in various media but printmaking has always been her favorite, and her beloved printing press was a focus of conversation, displayed in the kitchen, along with a tempting array of refreshments. Segal has taught extensively at Vero Beach’s Museum of Art and looks forward to doing more, now that she has her own studio. “I hope it will be a gathering place for area artists,” she has said.
The studio-warming was a great start.
