FELLSMERE — The northbound lanes of Broadway (County Road 507) at its intersection with County Road 512 are closed as the City seeks a solution for the broken water line that pushed water through the road’s surface on Monday at approximately 4:50 p.m. according to the Fellsmere Police Department
“The water broke through at least four locations under the east/west crosswalk at the northeast corner of that intersection forcing police to close the north lanes of CR 507 for approximately one block,” according to an official press release.
By 6:30 p.m. on Monday, City crews had shut off all water flow affecting the area, but according to authorities there was no interruption in water service for customers and a “boil water” notice was not necessary.
Fellsmere Chief of Police Keith Touchberry returned to the intersection Tuesday morning along with Public Works crews to assess further damage that had happened over night.
“There was substantial asphalt damage because of the water,” said Fellsmere Public Works Superintendent Mark Briggs. He added, a contractor could be out to give a bid on the repair as early as Tuesday afternoon.
Briggs said drivers can expect the northbound lanes to remain closed for a minimum of 10 days.
