SEBASTIAN — The driver of a utility van that struck a utility pole in the 100 block of South Wimbrow this morning was reported to be in critical condition according to the Sebastian Police Department.
John Heiss Jr., 46, of Sebastian was unresponsive in the driver’s seat when emergency responders arrived on scene Monday morning. He received immediate CPR and was transferred to the Sebastian River Medical Center where he remains in critical condition, according to authorities.
“Initial crash investigations list a possible unknown medical condition as the cause of the incident,” according to an official report released by the Sebastian Police Department.

SEBASTIAN — Indian River Fire Rescue responed to the intersection of Georgia Boulevard and South Wimbrow Drive in Sebastian at approximately 7:20 a.m. Monday morning after they received a report that a single vehicle had struck a utility pole.
The driver has been transported to the hospital to be treated for trauma injuries, according to Asst. Fire Chief Brian Burkeen. The condition of the driver is still unknown. No other passengers were in the car.
The power was temporarily down within a one mile radius of the scene, west of US 1 and South of County Road 512. As of 7:55 a.m., most traffic lights were working according to authorities.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation Burkeen said.
