Officer John Morrison retires after 25 years in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — After 25 years of service with the Vero Beach Police Department and 36 years serving in law enforcement, Officer John Morrison retired Wednesday with a ceremony recognizing a long line of his accomplishments in the community.

Morrison came to Vero Beach in 1989 after serving the citizens of the Rariatan Borough Township in New Jersey, according to Fellsmere Chief of Police Keith Touchberry.

Touchberry said he worked alongside Morrison for 24 years and touted him one of “Vero’s Finest.”

Chief Currey said Morrison served in several capacities for the Vero Beach Police Department including time in the special investigations unit, the M.A.C.E. Unit, and most recently in community services.

As public information officer, Morrison acted as liaison to the press, informed the public on matters of safety, and supported the community through special programs like the Neighborhood Watch program.

“He really took the Neighborhood Watch program to the next level for us,” Currey said.

Officer Anna Carden will be stepping up to fill Morrison’s shoes as public information officer at the beginning of October, according to Currey.

“He was truly a ‘jack of all trades,’ capable of performing a wide variety of tasks for the police department and he will be sorely missed,” Touchberry said.

Chief Currey thanked Morrison for his time with the police department and praised him for a job done well. He also wished Morrison and his wife well as they begin this new stage in their lives.
