Roseland community supports ‘Shop with a Cop’

ROSELAND — The Roseland Volunteer Fire Department Station, inside and out, was all about 7-Alarm Family Fun Sept. 20 for the Walgreen’s Annual Family Fun Day to benefit Shop With a Cop.

Volunteers from the two Roseland Walgreens, the Roseland Volunteer Fire Department, the Sebastian Police Department and the Indian River Sheriff’s Office Officers and Explorers, put on a great family day. Kids and grown-ups enjoyed music, lots of food, tables offering things to make for the kids, jewelry and many other handmade items for holiday gifting.

Drawings included gift baskets, and an $1,800 McCulloch riding mower donated by Unique Turf in Palm Bay, LaPorte Farms petting zoo and pony rides, indoor and outdoor games and crafts, join-in dances with the Sebastian Has Hip Hop troupe.

Students Dontae Jones, Kaleb Bennett and Mariah Golphin, showed kids how to construct paper plate jellyfish. Roseland Fire Department Volunteer, Eugene Hyden, sold tempting home baked cookies while his wife, Patricia, administered flu shots.

Rick Cook shared the fun with daughter, Tiffany, 5, who channeled a butterfly princess via face paint.

Walgreens Community Leader Bill Schultz said Walgreen’s traditionally gives volunteer time and corporate funds into community projects such as this, and 20 Walgreens employees donated their time to the event.

The day was organized by Roseland Fire Department volunteer Patricia Hyden, Ashley Penn, of the Sebastian Police Department, and Roberta Barker of the Sheriff’s Office.

Money raised will allow December’s Shop with A Cop event to provide underprivileged community kids with a merrier Christmas.
