Sebastian’s volleyball coaching bloodline continues

Coach Emily Secoy is in her first year as the head coach for the Sebastian River girls’ volleyball program but she has direct ties to the Sebastian tradition.

“My dad, Mike McCall, has influenced my coaching more than anyone,” Secoy said. ‘He is the one that started my passion for coaching by showing me what it was like to build a program from scratch.”

McCall initiated the volleyball program at Sebastian and was the first girls’ volleyball coach when the school opened in 1994.

Coach Secoy takes several pages out of her father’s playbook when it comes to her coaching philosophy.

“I want to build well-rounded young adults through the sport of volleyball,” Secoy said. “My dad cared about each girl as if they were his daughters. I want all of the girls that come in contact with my program not to only excel on the court in the sport of volleyball, but use the sport to teach them responsibility, accountability, time management and many other great lessons that they will need as they continue in their life.”
