Charles Edward Richter 84, Sebastian

Charles Edward Richter 84, retired Miami Architect, died Sept. 15, at his home in Sebastian.

A Miami native, he was born to Emil G. and Elizabeth M. Richter.

He was a graduate of Miami High School, and the University of Florida School of Architecture, and served in Korea as an officer.

Charlie’s architectural practice spanned 40 years, designing both commercial and residential projects in Miami and throughout Florida and other states. An active member of the community, he was president of Miami Northside Kiwanis, a 32nd degree Mason, and secretary of his Masonic lodge, former member of Mahi Shrine, a life member of the Miami Beach Rod & Reel Club, Master Angler, President and Angling Activities Chairman, and a board member of the South Florida Fishing Tournament.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, of 59 years; and children Todd (Sharon), Paul, and Suzy Powell (Robbie) of Sebastian; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Charlie’s fly fishing offered him the opportunity to meet other avid fly fishermen, forming long and lasting friendships along rivers and streams across the West and in waters of South Florida.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of his life on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Richter’s home in Sebastian.
