INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an armed robbery that happened Saturday evening south of Vero Beach.

Deputies and detectives responded to an armed robbery in the 700 block of 4th Street, according to authorities. Just after 10 p.m., a white male dressed in black with his face covered entered the convenience store portion of a gas station and pointed a gun at the clerk.

The unidentified robber grabbed money from the cash register and fled from the store. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Hawk, and a K-9 tracked the suspect, but were unable to locate him.

“Fortunately, the clerk was not injured in this robbery,” Sheriff Deryl Loar stated. “This case is an example of why we work so hard to get guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals.”

Crime scene detectives responded and processed the scene for forensic evidence.
