FELLSMERE — The Fellsmere Police Department has arrested a man accused of stabbing another man during an argument. According to a release put out by Fellsmere Police, the investigation started on Friday, shortly before 9 p.m. when a 911 call came in and was quickly disconnected.
Police went to the home where the call plotted to, the 200 block of S. Mulberry, and found a person had been stabbed and needed immediate medical attention.
The victim was not identified in the release.
Authorities identified Jaime Garcia as the suspect in the stabbing. He faces a charge of attempted murder.
According to authorities, Garcia, the victim and another person were drinking alcohol when the victim and the witness got into a verbal argument, which Garcia broke up.
The victim then became upset with Garcia and they got into an argument, the release states. The argument became physical, during which the victim allegedly “picked up” Garcia, “slammed him to the ground” and “got on top of him,” the release states.
It further states that the victim “allegedly choked and punched Garcia several times until the witness intervened between them.” The witness was able to get the victim off Garcia and pinned the victim to the ground to stop the fight.
According to the report, that is when Garcia walked to his vehicle and grabbed a folding pocket knife approximately four inches long and stabbed the victim multiple times. Garcia then left and went to his home, where authorities later found him.
The victim’s injuries were critical, the report states, and he was taken by air to Holmes Regional Medical Center. The Fellsmere Police Department said that, according to a friend of the victim, he was conscious after surgery.
Though authorities have arrested Garcia, the Fellsmere Police Department is continuing its investigation. As such, more information might be released in the future.
