Publix voluntarily recalls jalapeño bagels

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A recall has been issued for Publix Jalapeño Bagels, the private label of Publix grocery stores located across the southeast United States.

According to a Sept. 5 release from the FDA, the bagels which are sold in the self-service bins or artisan cases in the bakery department “may contain pieces of glass and small stones.”

“To date, there have been no reported cases of illness or injury,” according to Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director, as quoted in the FDA release.

“Consumers who have purchased the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund. Publix customers with additional questions may call our Customer Care Department at 1-800-242-1227 or [visit] our website at www.publix.com.”

The jalapeño bagels that may contain the glass and stones were distributed to store locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Stores in Tennessee and North Carolina did not receive any of the questionable bagels.
