INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Homeless Family Center (HFC) has been awarded funding for a special project request from John’s Island Foundation and the final installment of the John’s Island Community Service League grant in July and August, respectively. These generous contributions will aid in HFC’s mission and ultimately changing the lives of families, one family at a time.
The John’s Island Foundation grant in the amount of $2,685 was used to help HFC meet their goal for their Summer Project which is to complete an internal facelift in the resident’s housing and administrative offices. The project is underway with many new and exciting enhancements.
The residential building’s bedrooms were re-floored with carpet and the current carpet tiles in the hallway have been replaced with vinyl commercial flooring. Additionally, the resident bedrooms were painted and new televisions with mounts were placed in the transitional wing’s bedrooms.
The administrative building was painted and vinyl lament flooring will be installed along with remodeling of the restroom.
These improvements not only create better safety features, they boost the morale of the residents and staff.
HFC received the second of two installments for $20,000 from John’s Island Community Service League; the total grant was for $40,000 with the first installment paid in April. The monies will enable HFC to sustain a living environment which is safe, clean, healthy, supportive, and which enable homeless families to break the cycle of poverty.
In addition, the residents will be able to plan for their future, live in a secure, nurturing environment and a healthy congregate setting.
