Thomas Walter Sinclair, 63, of Sebastian, passed away suddenly on Aug. 31, 2014.
Sinclair was survived by his wife Sarah; children Hayley, Spence, Will, Ben (Genevieve), and Kathryn (Michael); and grandchildren Jillian, Tommy, and Liam.
Sinclair was the son of Betty and Rufus Sinclair and brother of Bob and Bill. He was a man of integrity, a true and loyal friend to many, and he could find interest in and talk to anyone. Most of all, he was a beloved son, son-in-law, brother, uncle, dad, grandaddy, and for 40 years, the best of husbands to his wife and high school sweetheart Sarah.
You will not find a more devoted, patient, and loving father than Sinclair. He spent most of his childhood in Maryland as the middle child of a military family. He and Sarah met there in high school through a mutual friend.
Sinclair followed his father into service in the Air Force. Shortly after, he and Sarah married and moved to Tucson, Ariz. where Sinclair served as a Ballistic Missile Analyst Technician in an underground Titan II missile silo in the Arizona desert.
While serving his enlistment period, Sinclair took great interest in the stock market and started dropping in to observe the brokers at a local A.G. Edwards & Sons office. After completing military service, he obtained a degree in finance at the University of Arizona.
He and his wife returned to Florida where Sinclair began his long career as a financial advisor, first with A.G. Edwards & Sons and most recently with Wells Fargo Advisors. He was a well-respected and valued employee for 35 years.
Sinclair loved many things in his life. His passion starting in his teenage years was golf and he pursued that with vigor, enjoying the game at courses throughout the U.S., but particularly here in Vero Beach with his friends at the Quail Valley Golf Club. He was able to celebrate his 50th birthday with a dream week of golf in Scotland.
If he wasn’t on the golf course, Sinclair was on, in, or near the river whether sailing with his father- in-law, motoring his own boat, or fishing off his dock. He had recently fulfilled another dream of building a home on the Indian River Lagoon.
He also loved woodworking and spent years handcrafting a beautiful wooden kayak that his family was scared to use because no one wanted to be the first to put a hole in it, but honestly, Sinclair wouldn’t have cared.
He was most proud of the fine young people his five children grew into. He was thrilled with each of their milestones and accomplishments. He was at all their class plays, music recitals, cheering them on at their sporting events, their graduations, and their weddings. They in turn respected their Dad and always turned to him for his wisdom on important matters in their lives. He delighted in his grandchildren Jillian, Tommy, and Liam and they loved their grandaddy. He will be sorely missed by his loving children and his wife Sarah.
Sarah and the children feel blessed to have been with him during his peaceful passing.
The family thanks friends and our family for unconditional love and support during this most difficult time. Though Tom’s death is our tragedy, we are thankful to have shared his much too short life on this earth. “Well done, good and faithful servant!” A private service for family will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Tom’s memory to the Community Church Youth Program, in which each of his children were involved for many years, at 1901 23rd Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
