‘May the Clam be with You’ at Sebastian Clambake Nov. 7-9

SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian Clambake Lagoon Festival is coming Nov. 7, 8, and 9, and this year’s slogan is “May the Clam Be with You,” submitted by Alan Shepper of Sebastian.

Fresh seafood booths, historic re-enactments, the Kid’s Zone, entertainment, the Press-Journal’s Clammer Jam, featuring some of our area’s best bands; demonstrations, vendor booths and more, will again be the focus in Sebastian’s Riverview Park from 2 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9.

Admission is free – tickets will be sold for food and T-shirts.

The Clammer Jam runs throughout the weekend, with live music by Wild Life with Jungle Brass, Dukes of Doo-Wop, Bobby Coleman and the Coolers, Vintage, The Cheyenne Band, Souled Out, and Hot Pink. Also performing are the Sebastian River High School Drumline and the Sebastian UMC Bell Choir.

The Sebastian Clambake, billed as a “Lagoon Festival,” celebrates the special way of life along the Indian River, which has been the life-blood of our community from the beginning. The lagoon provides our people with recreation, tranquil beauty and has fed our people for generations.

The Festival is known throughout the state for the quality of its food: linguine with red or white clam sauce, succulent shrimp, hearty clam chowder, fried fish & clam strips, steamed clams, pizza, hot dogs, and sausage, pepper and onion sandwiches are the featured culinary delights. There will also be cold draft beer, craft beer, and sodas, as well as Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade, a Breast Cancer charity drink.

The Sebastian Clambake Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, organizes the festival, and the proceeds are dedicated to local non-profit capital projects. Volunteers from our local community comprise the entire labor force.

The Sebastian Clambake Foundation is comprised of these member organizations: Sebastian Soccer Association, GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman’s Club, Sebastian Elk’s Club, Kashi Ashram, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 189, Sebastian River High School Athletic Boosters, Sebastian Property Owners’ Assn., Treasure Coast Rugby Foundation, and the Sebastian River High School Rowing Club.

Each member organization has one vote in choosing the beneficiaries.

This year there are three organizations that will benefit from the event: Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce’s Pelican Porch Project; American Legion Post 189, for capital improvements; and the Sebastian Elk’s Club, for their outdoor pavilion project.

The Foundation has granted nearly $500,000 to local charities thus far.
