Day Trippin’ plans Patriot Day tour of remembrance

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In the United States, Patriot Day, known in full as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, occurs on Sept. 11 of each year, designated in memory of the 2,977 lives lost during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. On Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, Day Trippin’ with Patti and Vicky will host a special tour as a remembrance of that historic day.

The tour will begin with a morning boat cruise on the Indian River Lagoon with Navy Veteran and Boat Captain John Barry “Chop” Lege. Lunch will be served at one of Ft. Pierce’s newest restaurants, Bottoms Up, where attendees will have a full BBQ lunch with a complementary libation from the restaurant’s owner.

In the afternoon, the tour group will be transported by bus to the National Navy SEAL Museum located on North Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce.

Originally dedicated to the U.S. Navy Frogmen who trained on the beaches of Fort Pierce during WWII, the UDT-SEAL Museum opened its doors to the general public on Veterans Day in 1985. Since then, the museum has evolved into becoming the National Navy SEAL Museum and continues to evolve with growth in its building’s size, its exhibits as well as in its membership and number of annual visitors.

Recent acquisitions to the Museum include the Maersk Alabama Lifeboat – the lifeboat where pirates held Captain Richard Phillips hostage off the coast of Africa in 2009, and Mika, the Museum’s latest “staff” member who just happens to be a Dutch Shepherd trained as a working service dog by Baden K-9 and Trident Fitness Tactical and donated to the Navy SEAL Museum.

The museum also houses a nice gift shop where one may purchase unique gifts – and at the same time, help to support the on-going efforts of the National Navy SEAL Museum.

Cost for the Patriot Day Tour is $75 per person and includes a full day – with bus transportation, a morning boat cruise, full lunch with complementary libation and admission to the National Navy SEAL Museum.

There will be two bus pickup sites on that day. For more information or to make a reservation, call Vicky at (772) 569-8372.
