Vero Beach lifeguard wins gold, national title in surf boat contest

VERO BEACH — Todd Rapp, a City of Vero Beach lifeguard teamed up with Victor Fox, of Virginia, to win gold and a national title in the 35-39 age group, doubles surf boat competition during the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships in Virgina Beach, Va., held earlier this month.

This is the duo’s third national title. Rapp, with his 5th national title, often competes in these types of events in between his full-time job as a captain with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and his part-time senior lifeguard duties with the City of Vero Beach.

The team hopes to repeat the win next year when the competition is held in Daytona Beach.
