Sebastian River Medical Center parent company data hacked

SEBASTIAN — A cyber attack on Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems Professional Services Corporation (CHSPSC), owner of Sebastian River Medical Center, might effect local patients.

According to an Aug. 19 official release by the CHSPSC, the company “believes the attacker was an ‘Advanced Persistent Threat’ group originating from China, which used highly sophisticated malware technology to attack CHSPSC’s systems.”

The report went on to say the majority of the patients of the 206 affiliated hospitals across 29 states will not be affected by the security breach.

CHSPSC said individuals whose information was taken will be mailed a letter informing them of the breech and directing them on how to enroll in free identity theft protection and credit monitoring services.

Currently, the company believes names, addresses, birth dates, social security numbers, and some telephone numbers were acquired by the hackers during the spring cyber attack.

So far, the company has no reason to believe any credit card information was taken, according to the report.
