Charles J. Schmidt, 77, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 17, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, the love of his life, Donna Schmidt; children, Charlie Schmidt, Cheryl Cooper, Janet Cobb, Jill Kimbrough, Richard Schmidt, Judy Moore, Tommy Schmidt, Truman Patterson and Eugene Patterson; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, three siblings and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Upon moving to Vero Beach in 1969 to raise his family, he purchased Miller Brothers Egg Farm. After retirement, he and his wife, Donna, moved to Leoma, Tenn. They resided in “paradise” for 10 years before returning to Vero Beach to be closer to family due to his declining health.
Schmidt was a man of great faith and devoted to his family. His generosity and kind heart was an inspiration to his family and friends. He lived his life with integrity, dignity, love and laughter which are all attributes he projected to anyone that met him.
He was a good man with a kind soul, wonderful sense of humor and unending love. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar and big Ford trucks. He was known for wearing white rubber boots, because after all, they matched everything.
Schmidt was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday Aug. 28 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.
