Commission floats idea of ball game before Jake Owen concert

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Vero Beach resident and national country music star Jake Owen will be capping off his summer concert series with a performance at Holman Stadium in October and the move prompted County Commissioners to think of way to make all-day use of the venue.

Commission Chair Peter O’Bryan floated the idea of an All-Star County Music ball game at Holman leading up to the Oct. 25 performance.

“We have a perfectly good ball field” not being used the whole day, O’Bryan said, which got him to thinking.

Jake Owen would certainly want to play, O’Bryan figured, and he brought Florida Georgia Line as an opening act last year – they’d want to play, too. And, surely, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill wouldn’t want to miss out.

And, O’Bryan continued, if Owen could be persuaded to participate in some trash talking, perhaps he could get Toby Keith to form a team to play against Owen’s team.

“I’m just putting it out there,” O’Bryan said.

Commissioner Bob Solari volunteered to referee the game – should there be one.
