INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Indian River County, and parts of Brevard, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie counties in effect until 2:30 p.m.
Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds in excess of 58 miles an hour and or large destructive hail according to the National Weather Service. Frequent to excessive lightning and very heavy rain will also be possible.
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A significant weather advisory is in effect in Indian River County until 2 p.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, Doppler radar indicated a line of storms capable of producing strong wind gusts from Kissimmee Prairie Preserve to the town of Okeechobee moving East at 20 mph.
This line of storms will push to the coast from Sebastian to Fort Pierce before moving further South.
The primary threats will be cloud to ground lightning strikes and gusty winds up to 50 miles per hour according to the advisory. Heavy rainfall will temporarily reduce visibility.
