INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A court record previously sealed has been released, detailing the hours before and after the murder of Sebastian River Medical Center nurse Diana Duve, who authorities say was the victim of domestic violence in June.
The Vero Beach Police Department’s complaint affidavit gives a detailed accounting for 26-year-old Duve and her boyfriend and murder suspect Michael David Jones’s activities as well as new details pertaining to Duve’s injuries.
While authorities had already released information that pointed to Duve having been strangled to death, the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy report indicates that Duve might have been bound while she was attacked and that she might have been stuck multiple times with one or more needles in her right hand.
According to the complaint affidavit, Duve had ligature marks on both ankles, indicating she was alive while bound. She also had “possible minute hypodermic needle marks” on her right hand.
During a search of Jones’s home, where authorities say Duve was killed, investigators found several insulin bottles.
Duve also had bruising on her face, her lower back, scratch marks on the neck and jaw, contusions to the abdomen, and other such injuries. She also sustained a fractured hyoid bone, which is located in the throat, further indicating she was manually strangled.
Jones has been charged with first degree murder but has not yet been indicted. The State Attorney’s Office expects to bring him before a Grand Jury later this month.
