George Wade Caton, 86, Vero Beach

George Wade Caton, 86, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 24, 2014, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Caton and Robin Caton and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor May Caton and his son, Douglas George Caton.

Born and raised in Methuen, Mass., he was the son of the late Frederick Charles Caton Sr. and Charlotte Wade Caton. He was educated at St. Rita’s and St. Mary’s School in Lawrence, Mass., and graduated in 1946 from Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen, Mass.

He was in the US Army as a Supply Sergeant in the Korean War. He owned Ronnies Taxi Service in Lawrence and Methuen. After selling the business, he became self-employed in the construction industry until retiring in 1989. He also owned the House of Antiques.

He was a former member of the Salem, N.H. Contractors Association, a member of the American Legion, the New Hampshire Veterans Association, and the Campton, N.H. Historical Society.

He married Eleanor May Caton in 1956, moved to Salem, N.H. and in 1966 to Atkinson, N.H. At 80, he discovered the charm of Campton, N.H. and spent five seasons exploring the woods and mountains of the area. In his later years, he was an avid weight lifter, eventually lifting 325 lbs. until age 85.

Arrangements are private at the request of the family and are under the direction of the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Campton Historical Society, PO Box 160, Campton, NH 03223.
