Bertha becomes second hurricane of season

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Tropical Storm Bertha has developed into the season’s second hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm has max sustained winds of 80 mph and is moving north at 17 mph. 

The storm is currently east of the Treasure Coast and is not forcasted to make landfall on the United States.


Aug. 1, 6:37 a.m – INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Tropical Storm Bertha has strengthened overnight from disturbance, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is sustaining winds of 45 mph and is heading toward the Lesser Antilles and northeastern Caribbean Sea. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for Puerto Rico and the adjacent islands.

The storm’s track does not currently show it making landfall on the United States, according to the NHC’s maps. It is moving west northwest at 20 mph.
