Contemporary urban feel in Highlands builder home

The brand-new custom home built by GRB Construction on Sembler Street offers the style of a chic, urban apartment with more than 2,000 square feet of living space, a two-car garage and a location in a quiet, established Sebastian Highlands neighborhood.

The home is not for the couple or family looking to be surrounded by the clichéd pinks and aquas that scream “Old Florida.” The minute you drive up and see the eight-foot rich, mahogany double doors, you know this place is something very different. The home feels elegant – at once calming and refreshingly simple – with its clean lines, its dark cabinets and its contemporary style.

With only eight three-bedroom homes in the Sebastian Highlands built to the new 2010 building codes, realtor Chip Landers said this builder home offers a great deal of luxury for its $239,000 price point.

“It’s barrier-island quality and features at an affordable price,” said Landers, an associate with Norris & Company Real Estate.

Many of the fixtures and materials are exactly the same as GRB Construction designs into its island homes, Landers said. But because GRB purchases these custom items all the time, the buyer of the home on Sembler Street will benefit from the contractor’s ability to negotiate good deals on pricey upgrades.

Up the herpal stone entry and through the double doors is a very traditional, open, split floor plan. To the right is the large formal dining room, the gourmet island kitchen, the sunny breakfast nook with bay window and the two guest bedrooms with a shared full bath. To the left is a cozy den with woodgrain flooring and French doors, plus the master suite.

Those who appreciate the understated, almost Asian zen-like feel in their décor will love the matching his and hers vessel sinks in the master bath, plus lots of soothing glass features, a walk-in shower and a jetted tub for extra relaxation. The same theme and quality is carried on in the guest bathroom.

Skirting the living room are extra-large sliders that open wide onto the long, covered patio. Screening of the patio is included in the list price, but it’s currently not screened, as there’s plenty of space in the backyard for a pool and if that’s the way the buyers choose to go, with a pool enclosure instead, Landers said GRB will credit back the cost of screening the patio.

Landers will host an open house at 613 Sembler St. from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20.
