Alfred Rothfuss, 83, Vero Beach

Alfred Rothfuss, 83, of Vero Beach, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on July 12, 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Rothfuss; his beloved children, Lori Hoffman, Alan Rothfuss, Mark Rothfuss, Melissa Rothfuss; his grandchildren, Chelsea Monte, Kyle Rothfuss, Peter Hoffman, and Emily Rothfuss; his brother, David Rothfuss; and his beloved dog Maxx.

He was a long term resident of Warwick, R.I., and presently a resident of Vero Beach.

An active boater and lover of the water, he spent many years with his wife and kids summering on Johnsons’ Pond in Coventry, R.I., and boating on Narragansett Bay. He loved boating, fishing and spear fishing and was called by his family the “Tautog” Hunter.

A consummate family man, he and his family annually camped around the country in true “Brady Bunch” style. He was a devoted church member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Warwick, R.I.

A Comptroller at Kenney Manufacturing in Warwick, R.I. for 38 years, he retired and RV’ed with his wife for many years exploring the country and traveling abroad before finally retiring in Vero Beach.

He was a volunteer of the Indian River North County Library as Treasurer for the Friends of the Library. He was an active member of Sebastian United Methodist Church and a familiar friendly smile when he volunteered at the Church Thrift store.

A kind, compassionate soul and a gentle spirit, he was loved by all who met him. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Sebastian United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, or the local chapter of Students Against Drunk Driving.

A memorial service will be held at Sebastian United Methodist Church, 1029 Main Street, Sebastian, Florida 32958 on Saturday July 19, 2014 at 2 p.m.
