INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) has begun an innovative partnership with the Senior Resource Association’s GoLine and Community Coach Indian River Transit to air public service announcements on drowning prevention, safe sleep, child care and other important community topics.
The PSAs, which began airing on June 30 on five of the county’s transit routes, along with 14 Community Coach buses, are being shown at no cost to DCF, thanks to Indian River Transit. Indian River County is the first Treasure Coast county to air the PSAs, which are being shown through the county’s existing Transit TV system multiple times each day on various bus routes.
“This partnership is a great way for DCF, GoLine and the Senior Resource Association to provide information to residents and transit riders on family safety topics that impact our communities,” said DCF’s Southeast Regional Managing Director Dennis Miles. “Drowning and unsafe sleep are two of the leading causes of death for children in our state, and this partnership provides us with another important avenue to get this critical safety information into our neighborhoods and homes.”
“We are happy to assist the Department of Children and Families to distribute public service announcements to the residents of Indian River County through our buses on the GoLine and Community Coach Transportation Systems,” said Karen Deigl, President and CEO of the Senior Resource Association. “The PSAs will be reaching over 6,500 individuals each week.”
DCF officials also plan to meet with transit officials in other Treasure Coast counties in an effort to establish similar partnerships.
