Joseph Parys, 90, Vero Beach

Joseph Parys, 90, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 3, 2014.

He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Mary (Kowalczuk) Parys. He was the devoted father of Joseph H. Parys (Marie), Carolyn J. Brandin, and Paul G. Parys; the loving grandfather of Sara, Gerard, Natalie, Paul Jr. and Hudson; and dear brother of Helen Zabilski and the late John Parys and Victoria Godbout.

Born in Providence, R.I., a son of the late Walclaw and Marta (Kawlik) Parys, he lived in Johnston, R.I. for 65 years before moving to Vero Beach in 1989.

An alumnus of Providence College, Parys received his Juris Doctorate from Boston University Law School and retired after 33 years from Travelers Insurance Company in 1981.

A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy with Fleet Air-Wing 7 in England. He was a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. When he lived in Rhode Island he was an usher at St. Thomas Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, served on the Finance Committee, and was past chairman of St. Thomas Boy Scouts Committee Troop 89.

In Vero Beach, Parys was an usher at St. John of the Cross Church, was in charge of the Village Green Golf League at Dodger Town until it closed and then at Island Pines Golf Course.

His funeral was held on Thursday, July 10 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Cranston, R.I., followed by burial with military honors at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
