Wilma Tamboer, 73, Vero Beach

Wilma Tamboer, 73, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9.

She was a devoted wife to her husband of 52 years, Aurie Tamboer; a loving mother of a daughter, Sheryl A. Ritschel (Glen) and son, Keith A. Tamboer (Theresa); a cherished grandmother of four grandchildren, Derek and Brad Ritschel, Michael and Carolina Tamboer; a dear sister of Donald A. Struyk (Rosemary); and a loving sister-in-law, of Elizabeth “Betty” L. Meyer (Terry); and a dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Born in Paterson, N.J., Tamboer resided in Towaco, N.J. for 30 years before becoming a full time Brielle, N.J. resident 16 years ago and a winter resident of Vero Beach six years ago.

A graduate of Eastern Christian School, she received a BA Degree at William Paterson University and studied music at Northeastern Bible College. She was employed as a elementary school teacher at the Netherlands Reformed Christian School in Pompton Plains, N.J. for 18 years prior to her retirement in 1996 and previously taught in Wayne, N.J. public schools.

In Florida, she worked as a Thompson Tutor for elementary school students. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach and was a member of the church’s choir. Tamboer also sang alto with the Vero Beach Choral Society and the Treasure Coast Chorale. She also directed and sang alto with numerous religious choral groups and choirs in New Jersey and also taught piano and organ.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ 07012 followed by burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, NJ. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Assn: (http://oceangrove.org/pages/donations) or the Christian Health Care Center, Wyckoff, N.J.
