“Honors for HAVA” golf tournament at Sandridge Golf Club

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — On Thursday July 17, Indian River County and the Treasure Coast Sports Commission will host the “Honors for HAVA” Charity Golf Tournament at Indian River County’s own Sandridge Golf Club.

Participants are invited to enjoy a complimentary breakfast and range balls before the shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. An awards luncheon will follow the tournament with special prizes for the sports shooting enthusiast.

The golf tournament will be held in conjunction with the 12th Annual Shooting Industry Masters, which is owned and produced by FMG Publications. The Masters is a closed event, three-gun style shooting match featuring a Mystery Course of Fire to be held at the Indian River County Shooting Range near Sebastian.

“We are thrilled to kick off the 2014 Shooting Industry Masters with the ‘Honors For HAVA’ charity golf tournament at Sandridge Golf Club. With the relaxed scramble format, everyone from the beginner to the scratch golfer has a chance to win some great prizes, so come on out and take your best shots while Honoring American Veterans Afield (HAVA),” said Michael Zito, Indian River County assistant county administrator.

HAVA was conceived and organized by a committee of shooting sports industry executives to help the healing and reintegration of disabled combat veterans back into normal American life through participation in outdoor events.

“HAVA is an all-volunteer organization that helps wounded veterans with their healing process and rebuilding confidence in the future through active participation in guided hunts and the shooting sports,” said Tom Taylor, HAVA chairman.

The County’s Veterans Services Division aides veterans, their dependents and survivors in any way possible and works to preserve and improve the quality of their lives by assisting them in obtaining all available benefits.

“We are honored that over 18,000 veterans reside in Indian River County. Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary in Vero Beach is a beautiful yet solemn tribute to those that have served their country. Hosting the Honors for HAVA golf tournament at Sandridge Golf Club is yet another way we can support and honor our veterans. I urge all residents of Indian River County to come out and play to support our veterans and the mission of HAVA,” said Peter O’Bryan, chairman of the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners.
