Jane Millican, 83, formerly of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully in her home on July 3, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Millican was born in Vero Beach on Aug. 1, 1930. She was the second daughter of John William Elvin Wheeler and Dorothy McCreary Wheeler. She was educated in Vero Beach public schools, The George School in Newtown, Penn., and Hollins College in Roanoke, Va.
She moved to Atlanta upon graduation in June 1952 and worked at Emory University where she met Earle Millican, whom she later married in February 1954 while he was serving in the U. S. Army in Indiana and Colorado. They have lived in Griffin since late 1955, raising a family of five children.
She served her community in the Utility Club and the Wisteria Garden Club. She taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Griffin where she was a member. She also taught in the adult literacy program. She was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, proudly producing four sons as Eagle Scouts. She enjoyed interior decorating, gardening, and outdoor activities, yet her greatest pride was being a mother and grandmother.
She was a tiny lady with always a big smile on her face who knew no strangers. She loved all people and took pride in lending a helping hand, sending many trays of food to the sick and bereaved.
A Memorial Service will be held in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Griffin, Ga., on Wednesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. One hour before the service, the family will greet friends in the church parlor.
The family would like to thank Kelly, Haley, and others who served with kindness and patience at this difficult time. A great lover of all animals, Millican was known for her particular fondness of cats. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Griffin-Spalding County, P. O. Box 758, Experiment, Georgia 30212, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
