Doris ‘Dee’ L. Smith, 70, of Indian River Shores, passed away on July 3, 2014.
She is survived by her husband, James P. Smith Jr.; two daughters, Jacqueline L. Smith (Terry E. Smith) and Lauren M. Smith, and her son, James P. Smith (Anne L. Smith); six grandchildren, Caitlin N. Smith, Christine M. Smith, Theodore S. Brown II, Alexander L. Brown, Kelly M. Smith, and William L. Smith.
She was the beloved wife of James P. Smith, Jr., to whom she was married 50 years.
Smith was born in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Margaret LaHiff. She attended Marymount College and graduated from Harriman College and the University of Rhode Island where she earned her Master’s DEGREE IN COUNSELING.
With a lifelong love for teaching young children, she taught at St. Paul’s School in New York City, N.Y., at Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich, R.I., at Greenwich Academy in Greenwich, Conn., and was the Head of the Lower School at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Conn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday, July 10, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Lane, Vero Beach, FL. Burial will be private.
