Deputy saves woman, animals from house fire

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A deputy with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has saved his third life, this time, from a house fire.

Dep. Rob Ryan was dispatched to a residence after a 911 call was received in the morning hours of July 3 about a house fire in the 500 block of Poinciana Circle, according to authorities.

The caller, Sherry Weinstein, fell asleep and forgot that her stove was on. Weinstein told dispatchers that she was very worried about her cats being inside. She then disconnected from 911 and went into her residence to try and retrieve her cats.

When Dep. Ryan arrived, he found Weinstein unresponsive on the floor, according to the release. He carried her out of the residence while also safely escorting her cats out of the home as well.

“He saved my life,” said Weinstein in a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office.

This is Dep. Ryan’s third lifesaving event, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He has been with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office for six years.
