INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Through the generosity of Orchid Island residents, Orchid Island Outreach has worked with the Scholarship Foundation of Indian River County, formerly Dollars for Scholars, since 2002.
To date, 36 scholarships have been awarded totaling $215,600. Those who can qualify are children of first responders of the Town of Orchid, Orchid Island employees or family members, and other students in the community pursuing a four year degree.
The 49th Annual Scholarship Foundation of IRC Award Ceremony was held on May 22, at the Richardson Center on the IRSC Mueller Center Campus.
The award recipients were: Lexi Choi (Industrial Engineering), Richard Marini (Graphic Design and World Languages), Kylie McCarty (Software and Computer Engineering), Sam Miller (Music and Physics) and Nicolas Ramirez (Computer Engineering).
As of last year, Orchid Outreach has also partnered with Indian River State College and established an endowed scholarship fund through the Indian River State College Foundation. This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to IRSC degree or certificate seeking students who reside in Indian River County.
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must have a 2.0 or higher GPA and must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA to continue receiving the scholarship. First preference is given to Orchid Island employees or family members and then to students who reside in Indian River County.
This year’s Indian River State College award recipients were: Nicole Bolton (Orchid Island employee), Jacquelyn Maranitz (family member of Orchid Island employee), Matthew Redstone (family member of Town of Orchid first responder), Diana Rugani (Orchid Island employee) and Wayan Sutriasa (Orchid Island employee).
