EXPIRED: Significant weather advisory in effect for Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory expected to last until 5 p.m.

“A line of storms capable of producing excessive lighting between Yeehaw Junction and Vero Beach” is moving Northeast at a rate of 15 mph. “These storms are expected to intensify as they interact with the East coast sea breeze of South Brevard and North Indian River Counties, according to the advisory.

Melbourne Airport, Melbourne Beach, Micco, and Vero Lake Estates are the four locations specifically listed in the advisory as in the path of the storm.

The National Weather Service urges people to cease outdoor activities and move indoors if thunder is heard.

The storms could produce gusts of wind up to 40 mph, capable of snapping small tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects.
