Capt. Daniel Chase Dennison, USN (Ret.), 81, of Vero Beach

Captain Daniel Chase Dennison, USN (Ret.), 81 died peacefully at his home in Vero Beach on Thursday, June 26, 2014. Born on April 13, 1973, in Belleview, Iowa, to John R. and Arlisle Dennison, he graduated “with distinction” from the US Naval Academy in 1955.

Sea duty included Fire Control Officer, USS Los Angeles (CA- 135), XO USS Lucid (MSO-458), Weapons Officer USS Fiske (DD- 842), XO USS Hugh Purvis (DD-709), Weapons Officer USS Newport News (CA-148) and CO USS Vesole (DD- 878).

Shore duty included US Naval Postgraduate School, University of Iowa, Special Assistant to the Undersecretary of the Navy; special assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower); Armed Forces Staff College; Force Operations Officer US Naval Forces Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal; Military Assistant, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Intelligence); and Staff Chief of Naval Education and Training.

Due to health issues, he retired for disability in 1977.

He has lived in Vero Beach since 1984 and was a member of Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Club and Vero Beach Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Ann Fuller Dennison; daughter, Dr. Anne Dennison (Dr. Russell) Oakley; sons, Jonathan and Jeffrey; brother, David Dennison, of Vero Beach; and two grandchildren, Merrill and Grant.

He was predeceased by his wife, JoAnne Snead, mother of his children.

At the request of the family, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA and Hospice Foundation of Indian River County or the Humane Society of Indian River County.
